JOIN US FOR AN ARTIST RETREAT AT ROMANTIC DAVESTE' VINEYARDS

Plan a day of exploration and fun with our monoprint workshop. Retired art professor, Noyes Capehart, leads our journey into the monoprint world utilizing watercolor, acrylic, oil, or ink (your choice of media). Learn something new while thinking outside "the box". No previous experience required.

This workshop is from 10 AM to 4 PM with demonstrations in the morning, a half-hour lunch break, then the afternoon for artistic experimentation. ($45 for members, $55 for non-members)

During lunch, enjoy a wine tasting for $5 (cash please) of 6 different wines produced by the vineyard with a souvenir wine glass to take home.

This is a beautiful pastoral setting and will provide a day of stimulating fellowship with other artists.

For further inquiries, please contact Sherry DeFazio at 704-509-4723 or the Lake Norman Art League web site, www.LKNart.org. To secure your spot, please mail in your registration form and payment today to: Lake Norman Art League, P.O. Box 2372, Davidson, NC 28036.

ABOUT DAVESTE VINEYARDS
Daveste Vineyards is proud to be the first winery in Iredell County, North Carolina. We're conveniently located about 35 miles north of Charlotte, NC, and near the intersection of I-40 and I-77. Our winery annually produces 1,000 cases of wine, including both dry and semi-sweet red and white wines. While offering some traditional favorites like Merlot and Chardonnay, wine lovers are enjoying our Chambourcin and Viognier. And some of our wines are further distinguished by being produced from varietals rarely grown in North Carolina, including Malbec and Rkatsiteli.
Shown at Left: Owner Ester DeFehr and tasting room manager Stevie Frye welcome visitors at the recently opened tasting room.

Daveste' Vineyards' vision is to offer preferred premium wines to wine enthusiasts from around the world. You'll find our pastoral setting is an inviting backdrop for respite from a busy day or travel schedule.

Our rustic, timber frame-style tasting room is open year-round. Our tasting room also serves as an art gallery displaying artwork by local North Carolina artists who meet each week at the vineyard. We invite you to visit us soon to enjoy the company of good friends, friendly staff, fine art and, of course, quality wines. Our tasting room and grounds are available for special events; contact 704-528-3882 for more information.

Visitors are welcome Wednesday-Friday 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Sunday 1-6 p.m., with winery tours at 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. We are closed Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Please call 704-528-3882 to arrange group tours in advance.

Nov 9th Presentation by Gordon James

November 9, 2009, 7:00 p.m.
Ada Jenkins Center, 212 Gamble St, Davidson, NC 28036
Guest Speaker: Gordon James

Gordon James will give a short talk about how he paints and sets up his palette and will do an oil portrait painting demo on an easel.

Gordon C. James' chosen artistic genre has its roots in Impressionism. The art of John Singer Sargent, Nicholai Fechin, Henry Ossawa Tanner, and many others inspired James to pursue a style that is both academic and expressive. As a result, his work contains a lyricism not often found in contemporary art. Be it through the sensitivity found in his romantic pieces, or the energy in hiscity scenes, James always connects with his viewer. He says of his work, "When people see my art I want them to say, I know that person, I know that feeling."

For more information about his work, please visit Gordon's website.

Featured Artist of the Month
JONI PURK

The Lake Norman Art League's featured artist for October 2009 is Joni Purk. Joni's work is featured in an exhibit titled "Nature's Diversity", on display through October 31, 2009, at The Artisan Galleries, 1236 East Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28203.

"I find peace in nature's beauty. Being able to share some calm or quiet with others is very rewarding. A flower becomes magical when simplified of color, doorways offer mystery, or watching a sunrise—a moment of wonder."

Choosing her subjects with care, Joni Purk strives to envision what the subject will offer to others. On exhibition, the truth is made clear when discussions arise over one of her works. Joni Purk feels an art piece should offer the viewer a feeling or emotion they can relate to and come back to over and over again.

"I have always strived to touch another's soul. I believe my artwork can make that connection. All subject matter invigorates my creative process. I am passionate about my surroundings."
