April 12th Presentation by Greg Barnes
7:00 p.m., Ada Jenkins Center, 212 Gamble St, Davidson, NC 28036
Guest Speaker: Greg Barnes, Pastel Artist
Greg Barnes received his BFA from Wake Forest in 1985, studying figure
drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking and art history. After spending
over 15 years as a so-called "artist in remission", Greg began a full-time
art career on the heels of the 9/11 disaster. Realizing that life is short, he felt that he'd better start doing what he was made to do. Taking a leap of faith with wife Janet, he began supporting the family by doing portraits, which always came naturally to him.
Shortly thereafter, Greg found that pastels were the perfect mix of drawing
and painting that he'd been looking for. The immediacy and vibrant look of
the finished "paintings" encouraged him to learn as much as he could about
the medium. Taking week-long workshops with pastel artists Kevin Beck
and Albert Handell sharpened his skill for painting on location (en plein air).
Quickly, Greg discovered that his pastel landscapes were becoming
popular in the Charlotte area and beyond. Fueled by their love for travel, Greg and Janet decided to show his work at juried art festivals. He has since traveled most of the country to display and sell his paintings, and has collectors from over 30 states and worldwide.
Greg has begun passing on his skills by teaching workshops. Visit his website at www.BarnesStudios.com for more information on shows, workshops, and recent paintings.

Important Information Regarding Exhibit Removals
We have a growing problem with work left in the gallery after exhibit removals. The League does not have storage space in the gallery, and work cannot be left hanging after the exhibit removal date. When work is left behind, it must be locked in the conference room. There is no guarantee that you will be able to get in to pick up your work, unless a volunteer takes the time to meet you there and ensure the room is unlocked.
We ask everyone to be conscientious in noting the exhibit removal date(s) when you bring in your work at take-in. Removal dates are always listed in the Call for Entries (Prospectus), on the website, and frequently conveyed through email. If you cannot pick up during the removal time, please notify us in advance at 704-620-4450. You may remove your work the week prior to the official removal date. Work cannot be left after the removal date.
The removal date for the Winter Exhibit is during the Spring take-in, March 26, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and March 27, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Please remove your work during these times, or make arrangements to pick up the week prior. Thanks!
