BIOGRAPHY
"I find peace in nature's beauty. Being able to share some calm or quiet with others is very rewarding. A flower becomes magical when simplified of color, doorways offer mystery, or watching a sunrise—a moment of wonder."
Choosing her subjects with care, Joni Purk strives to envision what the subject will offer to others. On exhibition, the truth is made clear when discussions arise over one of her works. Joni Purk feels an art piece should offer the viewer a feeling or emotion they can relate to and come back to over and over again.
"I have always strived to touch another's soul. I believe my artwork can make that connection. All subject matter invigorates my creative process. I am passionate about my surroundings."
My process is constant. I am committed to producing the best quality of work with each painting or photograph I create. Working in both a traditional oil layering method for studio painting and a more impressionistic style 'en plein aire'; I build my composition, followed by the layering of color, depth, highlights, and shadows until the mood or feeling I want to convey is achieved. My photography is printed on professional archival photographic paper and archival inks are used to produce the finest of images.
It is the subject matter which dictates the direction and application of a particular piece; using brush or palette knife, for example. When an image should remain a photograph, I then choose to print as an archival photograph.
Art buyers and the Press, alike, have described me as the 'Artist of Diversity®' for the art I create, which led to its Registered Trademark status in 2007.
