“Building Community” Juried Art Show Results
Well, congratulations to the entire Lake Norman Art League for the success of the league’s first juried show, “Building Community,” co-produced with Our Towns Habitat for Humanity. We took in 114 pieces of artwork, juror Herb Jackson selected 43 pieces for inclusion in the show, and four prizes were awarded. Receiving the First Place Award of $1000 provided by Raymer Funeral Home and McIntosh Law Firm, and a $250 gift certificate from The Great Frame Up was Lori Neill’s Egg Tempera painting “Midnight Dip” . Receiving the Second Place Award of $500 provided by Alexandria Jeweler and Scott Guice Dentistry and a $150 gift certificate from The Great Frame Up was R. David Kaylor for his Norfolk Pine Vessel. Third Place was captured by Brian Neill for his Mixed Media Art Display Case entitled “Crown Jewel”. Brian received $250 cash award provided by Keller Williams Realtor Bob Baer, and a $100 gift certificate from The Great Frame Up. An Honorable Mention award of $100 was awarded to Kathie Kemp for her watercolor entitled “On the Knee of an Angel”. The Honorable Mention award was sponsored by Charles Wilber Associates Architects. We are exceedingly grateful to Dressler’s Restaurant and to owners’ Jon and Kim Dressler for their hospitality and incredible food. Many thanks to all who worked on the show, all who entered and all who supported the show through deed and contribution.
If you haven’t been by Dressler’s to see the show, please stop in! The artwork will hang there until December 17. On Saturday December 18th, from 10am - 2pm artists are asked to claim works which haven’t sold. We’re thrilled to report that on the night of the opening show six works sold immediately. The funds raised through this event will benefit the Lake Norman Art League and Our Towns Habitat for Humanity. Again, thanks to all!
Next Meeting January 10th at Ada Jenkins -
**Important** there will not be a meeting on January 3rd. It has been moved to Monday, January 10th at Ada Jenkins at 7:00.
Opportunities……Fine, Faux, or Funky
Whatever your art interest and style, get ready.....in the near future, the Lake Norman Art League will be putting together a resource guide for people seeking artists in the Lake Norman area. We regularly receive enquiries regarding the need for artists to paint murals, portraits, and other items on commission. The only requirement for inclusion in this resource guide is your current membership, contact information, and undying enthusiasm. So-----just keep an eye on your e-mail and on our website (www.LKNArtLeague.com) for more on this exciting development.
Lake Norman Art League Directory
Wondering who’s a watercolorist? Seeking other sculptors? Pining for pals who make paper? Well…..we are also going to ask that all of our members provide updated contact information for inclusion in a Lake Norman Art League Directory for distribution to members only. We figure it’s about time for everyone to have a chance to contact their more than 80 fellow art league members if they choose.
Upcoming Members’ Shows
Just a word about members’ shows: They’re low-stress, non-juried, and awesome for our organization and the communities where the shows are held. So come on along and bring a piece of artwork to hang!
January Members’ Show: will take place at the Huntersville Town Hall. Take in will take place on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 beginning at 9:00 AM and running through noon. As always, if you have any scheduling conflicts, just let us know and we’ll work around it. The show will close when artwork is picked up on Friday, January 28. One piece per member, please, and no larger than 24” in any direction for two-dimensional work. For three dimensional work, please provide pedestal/case to show your work. Once we have our own gallery, we’ll be able to go a bit bigger and include more pieces per person. If you’re interested in coordinating a small opening event, please send your name and phone number to Ladianne@LKNArtLeague.com
February Members’ Show: Is in the works - - -will either be in Davidson somewhere or in Mooresville. Keep your eyes open for more information.
Next Juried Show: Think Outside the Box…..WAAAAAYYYY Outside the Box
Outside the box is where we’ll be for our next juried show. Our goal is to turn the whole juried show process on its ear! We hope to create an art experience that challenges and enriches all of the entrants and all of the viewers. Now……if you were a piece of art, where would you go to get the most exposure? Would you streak through Central Park? Would you ride a grand piano through the streets of London? Or would you cruise the international data superhighway? Hmmm…..stay tuned….this program’s sure to be something else!!
