Michael Hughes’ painting “67 Ranchero, circa 1980” has been chosen as Best of Show in the Lake Norman Art League’s 2006 Fall Show, on display through Nov. 19 at Wooden Stone gallery, 445 S. Main St., Davidson.
The exhibition and sale features artworks submitted by art league members and other local artists, as well as 13 works selected for publication in the 2007 “Images of Home” calendar. The calendar is being sold to raise money for the Davidson Housing Coalition’s HAMMERS emergency home repair service.
Besides Hughes’ painting of an automobile, other works also won prizes in four categories: oil and acrylic painting; watercolor painting; prints, photographs and other two-dimensional work; and three-dimensional work, including sculpture. The awards were announced at a reception Friday, Nov. 10.
Juror for the show as well as the calendar was Charlotte artist Laura McCarthy www.lauramccarthy.net, who studied painting and art history at UNC Charlotte and has a bachelor’s degree from Davidson College.
Hughes won $250 for the show’s top award. Other cash
